El paseo rodado de Pilar

Pilar Ruiz tiene 23 años, dos piernas, dos brazos y una cabeza muy bien puesta sobre los hombros. Sabe lo que quiere, y también lo que no le gusta. Es perfectamente consciente de las limitaciones que le supone su silla de ruedas, pero no se achica a la hora de vivir su vida de la mejor forma que puede. Le gusta la música, ir de conciertos y demostrarle a la gente que contempla a su entorno de la misma forma que el resto, aunque a veces tenga que alzar la cabeza para salvar los centímetros de menos que le roba la silla.

"Afortunadamente, ha habido muchísimos cambios en los últimos años, ha variado la mentalidad de la gente, pero eso no quita para que aún queden cosas por mejorar", asegura la joven. Más allá de las quejas por antonomasia y que a todo el mundo le vienen a la cabeza en un primer momento --la mejora de los rebajes de las aceras, la accesibilidad en lugares públicos, el aumento de los vehículos de transporte--, Pilar prefiere centrarse en otros aspectos igual de prácticos pero que en muchas ocasiones permanecen olvidados. Uno de ellos, los porteros automáticos de las viviendas. "No sirve de nada que los portales tengan rampas de acceso si después no llego a tocar el timbre", razona Pilar. "Además, en muchas ocasiones esas mismas rampas están construidas no para personas con minusvalía, sino para tener un lugar con el que subir el carro de la compra".

Los comercios

Un acto tan cotidiano como hacer la compra se puede convertir en ocasiones en una auténtica misión imposible para quienes se desplazan en silla de ruedas. Y también para quienes los acompañan empujando la silla. "Las grandes superficies comerciales están adaptadas están adaptadas, ahí el tema se queda zanjado. Los problemas están en las tiendas pequeñas". Pasillos estrechos, escaleras y productos que se tienen que ir sorteando son algunos de los particulares obstáculos que se encuentran en su particular carrera de obstáculos.

La calle tiene sus propios peligros. "Hay que tener muchísimo cuidado con los coches, que muchas veces circulan a una velocidad excesiva", afirma categórica Pilar, al tiempo que explica que la capacidad de reacción entre quienes circulan en silla de ruedas es menor, ya que resulta mucho más costoso mover la silla que el propio cuerpo. Pilar también apela al civismo de los conductores que, cuando no encuentran otro lugar libre, estacionan sus coches en el paso de cebra: "Un peatón no tiene mayor problema porque sortea el coche y cruza al otro lado de la acera. Pero si a mí me taponan el rebaje, ¿cómo lo hago? ¿Espero hasta que llega el conductor, para que me diga ya aparta el coche?", se pregunta la joven.

A la hora de disfrutar de su tiempo libre lo tiene claro, le gusta la música en vivo por encima de todo. Aunque no disfruta igual de un concierto si tiene que pasarlo en la zona que se habilita para personas con silla de ruedas, porque normalmente está situada "al fondo o en el medio". Ella lo que quiere es ver a los artistas de cerca, y por eso, estas mismas fiestas del Pilar desobedeció a un guarda de seguridad que la quiso desplazar hasta el espacio para minusválidos. "Yo quería ver a Chenoa, y no paré hasta que me situé en primera fila, en un lateral del escenario".

"Lo que yo pido no lo hago solo por mí, sino también por quienes vienen detrás. En realidad, todos formamos parte de una misma sociedad y poco a poco lo estamos consiguiendo", asegura, rotunda.
